The Complete Sky Player guide for xbox 360 |
The Complete Sky Player guide for xbox 360
Dont you hate it when you want to watch somthing different on sky to everyone else in your house and all of the TV`s are already being used? Would you like to be able to watch sky whilst logged into your xbox 360? (presuming you, er, realy like watching old episodes of The Simpsons?) Well now you can! However, there are a few things you`ll need to bear in mind before downloading the app from marketplace...
Firstly... There are several different ways to get sky TV running on 360 but all require not only an active Xbox Live Gold subscription (so if you only have silver you will need to upgrade to gold, Account), But also-as obvious as it sounds-a broadband connection (sky recommends a 2meg line as minimum). so first consideration you need to bear in mind is that it`ll start chewing through you bandwidth quite quickly with many pre-recorded shows reaching near 1Gig in size. So before you jump in, you`d be wise to double check what sort of monthly bandwidth allocation your broadband provier offers.foe those of you with unlimited packages, then you have nothing to worry about, but for many of you who do have allowances to keep an eye on, then you`ll need to factor in how much of that you could end up using. One thing extra to bear in mind is that even if you`re a sky HD subsriber, you wont get any channels on the Xbox 360 in high def (no doubt to stop people killing there broadband monthly limits by accident). Secondly, do you already have Sky TV in the house or even skybroadband unlinited? If so, does it have the optional multiroom package? (you can check with whoever pays the bill as there`ll be atleast two different sky boxes in the house). If you answered yes to both of those then you`re laughing as all you need is to go to Sky`s own website and register a sky player account (For Free) and use these log-in details on your Xbox 360 to get access to both live TV and also On-demand content instantly!
If however you have sky TV but no multi room, then you`ll need to pay extra to get full acess to the live TV streaming. If you dont`t have sky at all, then no problem, you can still subscribe to Sky TV without the need for satellite dish or even having to worry about atwelve-month contract (but you will need to pay a monthly fee depending on what channels you want). One final important noteis that whatever channels you have paid for already (if you`re an existing Sky customer) will be the ones you have access to. Now, not every channel you can get on your TV is avilable yet on the Sky Player, But for example, if you don`t have sky sports as part of your monthly subscription, you aren`t going to get it here either.
Check out our breakdown below of who can access what:
Got Sky TV with Multiroom?
Then you can watch everything the service has to offerfor free! (Including live TV such as Sky news). But you`ll have to create a sky player login on Sky`s Own website first. Sky unlimited broadband users can also watch live TV, but some on-demand content won`t be available for you.
Got Sky TV but you don`t have Multiroom or Sky unlimited broadband? Then you`ll need to pay an subscription to access the live TV content, and then create a Sky player login on Sky`s own website.
Don`t already have Sky TV or Sky unlimited broadband? Then you need to subscibe to at least there most basic package which will cost you £15 per month. You can of course add extra channels to this (sports, movies etc), and the price will change accoringly. you will now be able to access both live TV channels and any channels for which you`ve subscibed via on-demand. This can be done via your xbox 360

History: A channel for those of you who like to delve into the past and what has happened before just now.
ON-DEMAND CHANNELS: The channels you can watch via this part of the service will largely depend on what channels you`ve subscribed to in your monthly fee. As standard though, every Sky Subsciption to customer will have access to various BBC channels (including BBC NEWS,Rush HD-extreme sports- and even the likes of sky travel)
The more channels you decide subscribe to, the more monthly premiums will be. Somthing else to bear in mind is that you can only install it with your user details on one xbox 360!. So you carn`t start passing your log-in details to all your mates we`re afraid. The Xbox 360 you firts register with is the one that you need to use to access it.
Once You`ve Sorted Out What Channels.Access You Want: The next step is to pop onto Xbox Live and then log in with your Gold subscription. Now head to the Video Marketplace and you should notice the nice blue box mentioning the sky player. It`ll prompt you to download a free application to your Xbox 360, So download it and then run it and then go through the registration screen and either log in with either the Sky player deatils that you registered already on their Sky Player Website(On a Computer). if you want to simply take a gander on what`s on offer before you commit any of your hard earned money, then click in the "Sky Home Player" button to take a look.
Once you`re Up and Running: if you`re using one of Microsoft`s own Media Remotes then you`ve got the easiest way to get around this new application, otherwise you can use you controller with minimal fuss. Once you`ve saved your details (if you`ve chosen to subscribe to the service) it`ll auto lo you in from then on(when you enter the applaction again in the video Marketplace) and you can choose what you want to watch. if somthing isn`t available to you(if it`s not part of your package already), then it`ll suggest that you upgrade your package. You can also view movies or live TV with your mates and watch as all your avatars get together in a party room and you can all chat as you`re watching the footie together or checking out the latest movie you all have access to. And that`s pritty much it realy, If you decide not to subscribe to any channels then you can individualy pay for the shows you want to watch. |
